Anna asked for a photo of the finished rug.
This is a photo of the rug on the bedroom floor. And it's "sort of" finished, if you disregard the strips hanging out of the right side of the photo (just pretend you don't see them). At this point, it was about 3 feet shy of complete. I kept having B. haul it up the stairs on his shoulder to see if I could stop braiding yet, only to find out that the .#(*&%*^&^%^$ floor had grown more since I last checked. Have you ever felt that way? The rug started out to be one size and I had to keep adding and adding and adding rows to make it look right.
Well, I finally finished but keep forgetting to take a camera for a proper photo. Will this one do for now Anna (at least until I get one whole room with the rug on the floor)?
Amazing
ReplyDeleteIt's Beautiful Bonnie! Thank you very much -- yes, this one will do for now. But don't forget, I'll be waiting this fall. It looks so perfect!
ReplyDeleteI'm back. I had to come and visit again and oggle the rug. I really do love those colors -- especially the blue. LOVE it!!!!
ReplyDeletePLEEEZE post a tutorial. I cannot come to Utah from Wisconsin for your quilt festival (believe me I considered it!)
ReplyDeleteI'm SO impressed with your braided rug. Just for fun....how many hours do you have in your rug? And IF you were selling a rug like it, what would be the asking price? Just really curious.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comments. Jody, I really don't have any idea how many hours are in the rug.... a lot. I worked on it off and on for about 2 years. Many, many hours is my best guess. I couldn't even put a price on this rug because it took so much fabric and so much time. It really was a labor of love. The fabric was all quilt-grade 100% cotton and if I had to but the same fabric at retail they would go for about $9.50/yd. There are so many yards and I really have no estimate but A Lot. I used scraps, older fabric, and donations from quilting friends. You could use old sheets but depending on the size of rug you need different yardage. I wouldn't even know how to estimate...sorry.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful craftmanship!!!
