You know I pick a lot of berries. I got tired of trying to put them into a bowl and constantly having to unload it into something bigger; plus I was doing quite a bit of bending to get to the bowl on the ground.
Here's my solution. I took an empty galloon milk container, cut off the spout and continued cutting about halfway down the jug. You don't want to pile too many berries on top of each other of they will get smashed. I just thread a belt through the handle and put it around my waist.
Now I have two free hands and don't have to go far to drop the berries into the bucket.
Plus it's cheap. I wash it out at the end of the picking and re-use it until the berry season is over. I recycle it and next year I make a new one.
Such a clever idea. That some serious berry picking.
ReplyDeleteSmart! There's something so summery about berry picking!
ReplyDeleteBonnie -- what a clever solution -- oh to have so many berries that you need such a bucket --- where raspberries are concerned, that would be a dream. Joni
ReplyDeleteSo clever! This is such a wonderful and economical invention! Too bad I don't have any fresh berries to pick in my yard otherwise I would definitely do what you suggested. I "pick" my berries from Costco, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods! LOL....and I'm sure they are definitely not as fresh as yours! Have a good day. :)

Great idea!
ReplyDeleteA great little gadget and we put it to good use. We now have 4 jars of freezer jam made with the raspberries we picked. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIngenious Bonnie! :)
ReplyDeleteVery clever idea. My raspberries didn't do so well this year. Last years crop was much better. Enjoy them:)

ReplyDeleteHey! We do this to our milk jugs too. They can also hold nails and screws and fencing staples.
