African Yarn...What to do with it?

My friend Kris has long been involved with a humanitarian group that goes to Africa and teaches literacy in villages (among other endeavors).  Her husband Jay went along the last time she went.  Jay is intrigued with Artisan crafts and brought home this hand spun yarn which he bought from a street vendor.  Knowing I love fiber, they gifted it to me.  It was very loosely spun, almost like roving, and kept breaking but I did manage to knit this very small piece from it.  I used every last bit.  A coaster maybe?  I'm gifting it back to Jay, in hopes that it will remind him of his African adventure.
Our little town had a bit more snow this last week, but this was the sight that greeted us when we pulled into the property this weekend.
A plowed drive!!! We have an anonymous (sort of, because we think that we know who it is) fairy god-father.  Several times when the snow has overtaken our little town, we have arrived to find our drive plowed.   Thank goodness for kind and thoughtful neighbors.  And it was a balmy 14 degrees this weekend during the daytime.  Heaven knows we need the water, but I hope the snow melts before June.

  1. What a nice visit I've had to your blog this evening. I've enjoyed your father's Santas and your knitting - have noted the book and will look in the library as that sweater looks like just the thing for Saturday afternoons.

  2. Wow, what a great friend/neighbor/snow fairy you have. That is a ton of snow. Your last picture should be in a calendar. It is just spectacular! I hope it warms up too!
