Big, Bad, Bread Experience

My church has a big activity planned for Saturday; a day of sharing bread and soup.  The idea was to mentor others by teaching bread baking one-on-one in the kitchen.  Seventeen women signed up to be taught and only one woman signed up to teach, so I was asked to teach half of the women and help out.  I was happy to do that.  These women are so talented in so many ways, and it's not often that we have the opportunity to gather in the kitchen and bake with friends.  It was impossible to teach so many women one-at-a-time, so I taught two separate lessons in my kitchen.  We used the master recipe from Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day.  If you haven't made this bread, you should.  It'seasy to make and extremely good to eat.  You can find the recipe here.

These are some of my friends who baked with me in my kitchen.  It was fun to spend time with them, baking and chatting (we even did a little bread eating).

Doesn't their bread look great?  It tasted just as good as it looks.  There's nothing like a hot fresh loaf right out of the oven, slathered with some cherry butter or honey.

Teach someone to bake today.....your daughter, your sister, your neighbor, your friend.  Share the bread baking experience.

  1. You must be an awesome teacher because all the student's loaves look GREAT! I have that same bread book and haven't used it yet, but that is going to change SOON! Maybe I'll make some to go with your lentil soup recipe:)

  2. Bonnie, You are a master at time organization! What a fun group of women in this particular class, I do wish that I had been there to visit. Their bread looks like they've been making it for years. Must be the teacher . . . JK.

  4. Bonnie, is there anything better than homemade bread. I have not tried my hand at any artisan bread, but I should. I am a WW and foccacia type of person. Your Saturday baking sounds fun. Joni

  5. Barbara, Cherry butter sounds like apple butter, doesn't it? I should clarified (no pun intended) that it is just compound butter made with a little sweet cream butter, vanilla, powdered (or confectioner)sugar, and some homemade cherry jam.

    It is really good, and I make different kinds by adding different kinds of jam. It's a nice alternative to honey butter.
