I'm apologizing for my long absence. I've been here just "not here". Our homestead was part of an historic home tour last week. Now it's over and done with.
The weather forecast was bleak. It was supposed to rain and I spent days washing windows (I know...kind of stupid but there were years of spots so a little rain wouldn't have harmed anything), hanging things on walls that had been put on the back burner, weeding, mowing, planting, and quilting. There is nothing like a houseful of guests to spur me on to get the work done. The girls came down; helped us work and helped us roll out the stored runners just in case it got really wet. I used the hair blower once to straighten my cable knitting needles and it did the trick on the ends of the curled plastic floor runners as well.
The rain didn't materialize but 60 mile an hour winds did and somehow that didn't deter the 1,000 + people who came. Maybe the gale force winds convinced them to come inside. Anyway the tour was a financial success for the non-profit preservation group so that was good. We never left the house and the granary all day and I had no time to take a photo so I stole these from Abby. My husband and girls worked so hard that we all need a good long vacation.
I have no voice left and I need a good nap but I'll be back sooner rather than later.

Ohhhh, my Aunt will be so disappointed that she missed it -- she's been in OK for grandchildren's graduations and a wedding. ;-( Do those of us who couldn't be there get a tour too? ;-D
ReplyDeleteHow much fun, well after all the work is done that is. I washed one room of windows, that would be two windows, last week and thought how wonderful it was to have clean windows and curtains in that one room. Now I need to work my way through the whole house!
ReplyDeleteOh I hope you do a blog tour, would love to see the house.
ReplyDeleteNext weekend I'll try and take some photos. Thanks for all of your interest.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gift you've given!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a good, long nap (or two or three or four).
Jody
Glad the tour was a success after all your hardwork. So nice that you could spend the time with your family.
ReplyDeleteI had our historic home in Florida on a tour before we moved north. I do know all the work involved and I'm sure you do need a rest. I'm hoping that you will post photos...I know everyone would really enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Bonnie! This sounds like a lot of work. I would love to see some photos too! Still planning that field trip in my mind to your country house...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back, Bonnie! I'm sure your homestead looked beautiful and was enjoyed by all! I wish my humble little "homestead" was on tour so that I would be more motivated to clean and hang up new family photos, among other things! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job Bonnie. I always love home tours and appreciate what it takes to put your own out there. I'm sure everyone loved it. I am so curious about your lovely homes. See you when you return from France.
