4th Annual Spring City Bluegrass Festival

Our friends and neighbors, Mark and Vickie from the Spring City Inn (hardest-working people we know, by the way) put on a great Bluegrass festival this weekend in their backyard.  They built a great stage from old supplies.  Here's Vickie in the sound tent (left of Mark's River Road Band member). 

 Tennessee and Kim served Dutch oven cooked meals for a very small price, and

Dean gave free wagon rides around town.  Bruce just happened to get a shot of him as he passed our house. 

Plenty of bands to listen too but one of my favorite acts was Rebeka and Jake Workman (he's the winner of the 2010 Texas flat pickin' contest).  Talk about flying fingers (both of them).  They are part of a band from Kansas called Driven.  This video was from a few months ago.  Jake and Rebekah are the bookends.

 

Mark is a multi-talented guy; a great musician.  Vickie says his dream has always been to have a venue to showcase other people's talent and foster newcomers.  With Vickie's help, we think he did pretty darn well.  Tents for shade, your own chairs or blankets, or sit on their covered hay bales, you choose.  Even though there must have been around 800 people throughout the day there was more than enough room to spread out and get comfortable.  The Allens put together a great event and our community is lucky to have them.  $5.00; how can you beat a whole day of great music and fun for that price?

This is Mark's band River Road ; they were the closing act.  Their vocals were hauntingly beautiful.
