Grand Canyon

We managed to sneak in a little vacation.  Mr. CityHome made reservations at one of the lodges at the South Rim and we had a few beautiful days to relax and unwind.  The family hiked down into the canyon and we all enjoyed some gorgeous views at all times of the day.
My late father-in-law drove the yellow tourist buses for the National Park System while on his summer break from University during the depression.  His route included the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks, and Canyonlands.  Scenic wonders that awed his tourists from the Eastern USA or Dudes, as he called them.  They arrived by train and he loaded them and their luggage into the buses and off they would go to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

Grandpa loved to tell his children that he warned the Dudes about a wash out on the line as they neared a particular town.  In those days, the rural dirt roads were a lot bumpier and dustier and uncomfortable to travel on than our highways today.  The tourists were of course suitably concerned about a washout.  Imagine their relief when they discovered that the WASHOUT was only a housewife's laundry hanging on a clothes line.  He always had a good laugh over that one.
