MacTweets California Dreamin" (Mama and Papa style)

When I was younger than I am now (much younger) there was a singing group that I listened to on my transistor radio.  Of course my mother made me listen with my ear phones as this music was just noise, according to her.  Yes, I am old, but I was in third grade then.  The Mamas and the Papas were a quartet and I don't think that they were the best musically but I loved them.  They wore Tie-dye clothes (the hippie era of course) and they lived in California; beautiful sunny California.  The land of lemon trees, palms, the ocean, and of course, Disneyland.  California represented all that was fun and exciting.  If you were really lucky you went there for summer vacation.

My inspiration song is the Mamas and the Papas California Dreamin'.

All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I've been for a walk
On a winter's day

I'd be safe and warm
If I was in L.A.
California Dreamin'
On a winter's day

I made Tie-dye macarons and filled them with my home-made lemon curd.  (On a side note:  I used frozen curd which I posted about in a previous post.  It defrosted great.  There was no loss of flavor, texture, or body.).

My family loved these.  They are by far the most crazy and eye-catching macarons I've made.  The lemon curd filling is a burst of summer.  I think any former hippie or fan of 60's music would be proud to eat these.

Anyway, they were fun to make.  These are happy macarons.

Check out the Mac Tweets blog to see what the other members made this month.  I'm also submitting this to Two for Tuesdays and Tasty Tuesday so link back to them too.

  7. Sorry Alex, I forgot to add the recipe. I used the same Ottolenghi recipe that I have used in the past. I also posted a photo tutorial as well that might be helpful if you are a new macaron maker. Here is the link to that post:

  15. Gorgeous vibrant macs. Imagine if you used some 'secret ingredient', like they use to do with brownies, in the filling to complete the psychedelic experience.
