A few years ago, I saw the cutest little baby hat on Franklin Habit's blog. There was no pattern and to this day there is still no pattern that I know of. I loved the "Charlie Brown-esque" face. It was so cheery. I've seen a lot of snow man hats but none as cute as his design. But........there was no pattern!!!
I always respect copyright laws. As a craft person (and one who sold my own patterns at one time), I know how much work goes into producing original designs and I would never "steal" someone else's design and claim it as my own. But in the absence of a pattern and being that I am not selling these but only making the hats for my own use, I "copied" the design somewhat. My version is not an exact copy but I did make my face like the inspiration hat. Franklin had a scarf around the neck of his snowman and his hat design was different and had a tassel instead of a pom-pom.
I love my version of Franklin's hat and it's been a favorite of my girls. I need to make a few more for them. This snowman hat was a fun knit and knits up quickly.

Brilliant Bonnie, I love your snowman hat!! He would make a great ornament too! Hope that whoever receives him loves wearing him. xx
ReplyDeleteThis is just the cutest thing! Not only can you knit it but you can come up with a pattern! Bet the kids are fighting over this darling one!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, ever cute!
ReplyDeleteadore your work such talent
ReplyDeleteThank you Rebecca but I can't take credit for the design. Just the copy. I do appreciate all of your kind comments.
DeleteI love it. Not sure I would know how to make such an adorable hat winging it. You are very talented! It is cold, cold here, not yet to zero this AM, I could and would wear that hat this morning.
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Gosh! I remember when Franklin posted that hat. I filed away a copy of the picture (I think that was before pinterest) and patiently waited for him to publish the pattern because he said he would. And then ... nothing. I think I might have even commented begging for the pattern. Your version is ADORABLE! I love the color you chose for the "hat" too!
ReplyDeleteI made a red one with a tassel like Franklin's original. It had a slightly different Fairaisle pattern around the bring and no pom pom. I love both versions. It wasn't difficult to figure out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy little hat this is. So adorable and fun. What a way to brighten up a winter. You are something! Joni
