Another one bites the dust...

When the phone rings late on Saturday night, it's seldom a good thing.  Our phone rang.  Seeing it was our daughters number I panicked.  Here's the reason for the call.......

Those buildings behind the tree are our limestone ice house and the stable.  You can just see our white picket fence that surrounds the yard on the right.  That Cottonwood tree is about 150 years old....at least it used to be.  Soon it will be firewood.  A few years ago one trunk of that same tree (there were three trunks) laid itself down into the pasture in the opposite direction..  Last night a quick windstorm packing 50 mile per hour winds came through while the girls were out.  The storm broke one trunk off about 4 feet up and tore large limbs off the other trunk when it blew down into the pasture.  It crushed a lilac and a current bush but missed the fences and buildings, thank goodness.  And luckily the vehicles and people staying at the Homestead were spared.  We were not so lucky with the 100 year old maple that came down in front of our city house a few years ago.  It fell on two of our vehicles.  This time we were blessed that no one was hurt and that the casualties where a lilac and a current bush.
It doesn't look quite as bad in the dark.

  1. Oh, I'm so glad that no one was hurt, and that your home wasn't damaged.
So sorry about the loss of your big ol' tree etc.

That was a really strange weather event!

I think everyone lost a few tree limbs, and shrubs etc.

    Thankfully, no one was injured.

All that wind, and not a drop of rain!

  5. Oh dear! I'm so glad it missed people, buildings, and vehicles. Still, the loss of a big, old tree is harsh.
