The mountains above our valley are on fire.  Sadly 65 buildings have burned, some livestock, and lots of hard work and dreams have gone up in smoke.  The cause appears to be theivery of copper wire from electrical poles which sparked.  It's a travesty that a small amount of cash for metal can cause this.  The damage estimate is 8 million and it's only 8 percent contained.  We could see the fire from our bedroom window for the last two nights.  It's just about 8 miles away from our town.

We are praying for rain.  Our ground is dry and brittle.  It was a dry winter and the snowpack is alreayd gone and irrigation water rationing has begun.  We hope the drinking water holds out.  Fire season usually starts in late August and it's only June.  It's going to be a long summer.  So many of the western states have fires burning and there is so much devastation.  Thousands of brave firefighters are on the front lines trying to salvage our beautiful wild areas on the ground and from the air.  The water being used to fight this fire is precious.

Hopefully, awareness will kick in and people will use common sense the rest of the summer.

  1. We have the fires, too. When I got up this morning, I could smell the Colorado Springs fire. Our grands can go outside here in Denver, but not at home in Ft. Collins. That fire is horrible, too.
I join you in prayer, Bonnie.

  2. Wow -- that's awful. Is this looking north? Are the burned buildings on town? (Is this Fairview?) Or ranches? Eeeep!

  3. It is so scary Bonnie, you stay safe! I have started to reuse water from showers and washing up in the kitchen to water the flowers.

  4. I am sorry to see this so close to your home. I pray you will get rain soon. We are down in our rainfall also and the U.P. had a really bad fire that destroyed a lot of the forests. I have never lived anywhere there were fires like that, sounds very scary to me.

  5. O goodness! I am SO sorry to know that you are so close to danger. Fires are burning all around our area too. The sky seems permanently gray right now (with smoke). Water is scarce here too. Too bad we can't have "Little Debbie", the tropical storm up here for a day!

  6. I saw the fires on the news and thought how dreadful and here you are so close. Yes so many dreams literally up in smoke.

    There is no Global Warming!

Also enjoyed your piece on restoring the old cabinet.
