Resolutions?

I'm not much for New Year's resolutions.  In the past I have made them, but rarely am I able to keep them.  So now I just make a few goals... I feel less pressure having goals.  They are more flexible, aren't they?  And by-the-way, where did 2011 go!?!  Do you feel like it came and went too quickly?

Every year I have a goal to become healthier.  I made a goal (again) to finish Abby's petit point Christmas stocking.  Hers is the last one of our daughter's still unstitched.  I just might finish it this year.  Yesterday I cast on for a new pair of knitted socks and prepared strips for the braided rug for the upstairs bedroom, and I have one more closet to clean out.  That's all I can manage for now.

New Years is a time of new beginnings.  In our family, One is on the other side of the country this new year; Two and Three are an hour away still; but Four is moving to London for a semester.  I really feel like an empty nester now.  (Not sure I really like New Beginnings) but 2012 is here, whether I like it or not.
So here's to goals and new beginnings.  2011 was a good year.  I feel blessed and look forward to 2012.

Do you make New Year resolutions?

  1. I just pick a 'word of the year' for an overall theme and the goals all sprout from that. Last year the word was 'cultivate'. This year it's 'stewardship'. I'm excited to figure out how to apply this concept to various areas of my life.

  2. I am so with you when it comes to resolutions vs goals. I like goals. What socks have you cast on? I am still on the last pair you suggested.
I too feel like an Empty Nester, #1 lives in Chicago, #3 in Denver and #2 is home with us finishing her Masters {she presents her thesis in March} then who knows where she will be off to. She is the daughter that spent 2 years in China, talk about a long way away. Hope you have plans to visit dgter in London.

  3. Ooooh London! I'm smelling a trip to visit in your future LOL!

I'm not a resolution person either. More like a list person. I'm trying to make a list of things I'd like to accomplish this week. That's as far as I can plan today. Haha.

I hope you have a wonderful 2012. I'm looking forward to reading your posts!!!

  4. I have loved reading your comments about your "resolutions". Cynthia, I love that you pick a word to emulate.
Anna, lists are something I do as well. So much easier if I can stay focused. (And yes, there is an European family trip in the works). Can't wait.

Hi Eileen. I've cast on for a pair of socks (toe up of course) with a bit of a pattern using a hand-dyed and spun sock yarn that I purchased on a road trip to Durango, Co. Isn't it hard having your children far away?
