Rain and Bees.

We are here at the homestead mid-week because we had a small problem in our walls.  There is a beehive...in the walls of the house.  We called several beekeepers, hoping that someone knew of a way to remove the bees.  They all wanted them; honey bees apparently cost about $85.00 a colony.  The problem is that we have 24-inch thick limestone walls; two courses with rubble in the middle.  To remove the hive you have to be able to get to it.  We can't.
One beekeeper asked if we might consider ripping out the roof and soffitt.  NO!...Thank you.  Pretty sure that would cost WAY MORE than $85.00.  One wanted to do some more research, and called me with the same information from the same web site that I had already googled; the bees can't be relocated. So today the exterminator (I really hate that word) came and sprayed.  He will most likely need to come back again before we can re-mortar the hole below the soffit that the bees entered in.  Cross your fingers.  I like bees and honey....just not in my walls.

The sky is a beautiful dusky pink, just beginning to darken and the rain has stopped.  It smells divine and there is a cool breeze ruffling the curtains.  I'll be back tomorrow from the city with a post and photos.  Our modem crashed but Jody the computer guy is coming tomorrow to get us back up and running.  We've been working on a new project. I think you'll like it.

  1. Oooh, I can't wait to see Bonnie! Good luck with the bees -- they can sure be pesky if they're in the wrong place. We're having terrible problems with ants out in our yard. Every time hubby gets rid of an ant hill, they pop up somewhere else. You have to admire their industry!

  3. Oh my, I'm glad you were able to get the bees taken care of. My daughter/son-in-law just had an exterminator over...he's working on getting rid of the opossum(s) from under their house~eeek!

  4. Bees and honey are lovely but definitely not when they are in your walls. I know what you mean about a modem being down."Irene" took mine away, first in New Hampshire and then in Maine. The power came back last night and things are returning to normal.
