Antique spinning wheels

We love antiques.  You know the saying,  "One person's junk is another person's treasure".  I should clarify that I really don't love junk...just gently loved "old things".  There is something so charming about older things.  Maybe it's the histories and stories attached to them.  If only they could talk.  We have two antique spinning wheels; our kind of "folk art".   The antique dealers we purchased them from didn't know much about them.

The Scandinavian style maple wheel with ivory embellishments is balanced and in working order.  All it needed was a gentle dusting.

The older stained American wheel (we are uncertain as to what variety of wood it is made from) came from Nebraska .  Its whorl is missing and would need to have a custom replacement made to be functional, but now it's cleaned and oiled it makes a nice piece of folk art on the new reproduction jelly cupboard in the entry.  I love the patina and the worn treadle on the old wood.

Maybe I need to learn to spin.................................in my spare time.
