Happy New Year and Digging Out
We started the new year with more snow than I remember having since we bought our country house. It was beautiful, even if it was a lot of work to get into the yard.
After my trail-blazing husband waded through the deep snow to the snow shovels, we dug a pathway into the house. Sometime later (much much later), we had made pathways around the yard and a small place to park our car. Thank goodness we left our large gates open or we would have been climbing them. Not much football viewing at our house this weekend. At -16 degrees below zero last night (we've been having an extended Artic cold front) and no warming 'til the weekend, there won't be much melt for awhile.
While the snow creates some problems, it's much needed in our mountain valley. We are the only county in the state without a reservoir, and in our arid western state, water is a precious commodity. So as we dig ourselves out, we remind ourselves how nice it is to have drinking water and irrigation water for the rest of the year.
Hope you had a nice New Year's holiday, and a lot more relaxation than we did.
That is a very positive outlook. Stay warm and safe until the thaw. La
ReplyDeleteNow it's time for you to relax and enjoy the beauty!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt about it, you posted pictures of 'home' today. You can just see the love and comfort in every photo.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I am so glad to stopped by my blog today so that I could find my way here! We do share many of the same passions: food, old homes, knitting and family for starters! This photo of your country home is beautiful! Sure would like to see a finished photo of that cute little jacket you were knitting in the summer. I love the itty bitty toy book and I keep wanting to try that cedar leaf shawlette. =) I sure have enjoyed my visit today and I'll be back. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteBonnie -- we were dumped on too, but we were out of town and I didn't get to appreciate the falling snow. It sure IS cold here! No snow melt soon. Your pics of your "country home" are beautiful! You received a lot more than we did. Time to just sit back and read a good book. Joni
